What’s the benefit of meeting Dave?
Dave has over 25 years worth of experience in the industry, and has trained many of our driving instructors. He can talk you through the process, answer questions and explain how New Driver can help you.

Absolutely. If you prefer to do an assessment drive (taster session) with Dave, then this can be arranged at a cost of £40.
However, if you buy one of our packages we will deduct this from the cost.
How much does the meeting cost?
Nothing! Meeting Dave is absolutely free.
Where can I meet Dave?

Train With Us
We provide you with the complete training course, helping you every step of the way to becoming a driving instructor.
How do I become a driving instructor?
Becoming a driving instructor involves a number of stages.
Here’s an overview of the steps and requirements to become a driving instructor:
-
Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible to become a driving instructor in the UK, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 21 years old
- Hold a full and valid UK driving license for at least three years
- Have no more than six penalty points on your driving license
- Pass criminal record checks (DBS checks)
-
Register with the DVSA: The process to become a qualified Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) includes three parts:
Part 1 – Theory Test: This is a computer-based test that assesses your knowledge of driving theory, hazard perception, and instructional techniques.
Part 2 – Driving Ability Test: In this practical test, your driving skills are evaluated to a high standard, similar to that of a driving test candidate.
Part 3 – Instructional Ability Test: This is a test of your instructional ability. You’ll be assessed on your teaching techniques and ability to impart driving knowledge to learners.
-
Apply for a Trainee License: Once you’ve passed Part 1 and Part 2 you can apply for a trainee license. This allows you to gain practical experience by providing paid driving instruction under supervision. New Driver will sponsor your trainee license.
-
Practical Teaching Experience: This experience will prepare you for the final ADI Part 3 test.
-
Pass Part 3 – Instructional Ability Test: After gaining sufficient teaching experience, you’ll need to pass the final Part 3 test to become a fully qualified ADI.

How much is the training course?
There are 3 options for payment, meaning you can choose the one tailored best to you.
Pay as you go
We know that with everyone tightening their belts you don’t want to pay for training that you don’t need or use.
That’s why one option is a pay as you go system. We ask for £250 upfront payment, before paying your trainer direct (£40 per hour) for the training you need. This ensures you only pay for the training that you need.
With this option we promise to provide the following:
- All of the DVSA recommended reading books (6 in total)
- 1-to-1 support from a dedicated account manager, including specialist knowledge on the Part One test (including telephone support)
- We’ll pair you up with one of trainers, for 1-to-1 training in your local area (pay direct and as you go)
- Guarantee of a PDI licence while working on Part Three
Full Training Course
For £1,850 we will train you to become a driving instructor, with no requirement to stay with us once you are fully qualified.
This is the cheapest option to get your ADI badge.
Full Training Course + Franchise
For £1,300 we will do everything above but ask you to stay with New Driver for a year after passing your Part Three exam.
There are many benefits to being on franchise with New Driver, as highlighted below, so this is a best value option.
